Not So Spring

Spring has been TRYING to start but with every nice day we have a week of rain, snow, wind and cold. For some reason I remember it being warmer in April, especially towards the end of April and it was definitely warm by my birthday. I'm not really sure I believe in global warming!!! Anyway, I am posting these pictures to remind us all that the weather could be worse. These picture were taken in February after one of the many storms we had. That snow pile is the side of our driveway and for those of you who don't know, Peter is 6'4". And he didn't get the memo that this wan't a GQ photo shoot!!! LOL

Happy Birthday Preston!

I have had this partly written for a few weeks now but didn't have a chance to finish it. Now that I have the week off, I have no excuses. So I guess better late then never. On March 25th, 2011 our little boy turned 3 years old. I remember the day he was born like it was yesterday! Where does the time go? It is moving way too fast for me. I am trying to savor and capture every minute of it. Preston has been obsessed with the DVD Mater's Tall Tales since Christmas and Preston decided that he wanted a Monster Truck Mater birthday party and guess what??? We had a Monster Truck Mater birthday party!!!! Guggie and Poppie hooked Preston up with a completer set of all the Mater's Tall Tales characters. I'd say it was almost better than Christmas!!! So much fun!!! Thanks to all of our family and friends who shared this special day with us.

Faster Faster

I posted these on Facebook already but I figured I'd better put them on the blog too. Preston loves his new bike that Aunt Sybil got him for his birthday. The weather hasn't been that great around here so he's been riding in the garage every chance he gets. Now he is a peddling master!!!!

Trip to the NYS Museum

Preston is old enough now, so we decided to take him to the Museum. We had a lot of fun (except trying to get him away from the trains). At first he wanted to stay in a single exhibit. It took gummy-bear-bribery to get him to realize that there are many different exhibits. Once he realized that, he really enjoyed the different displays. Especially the different animals and fluorescent minerals.

A good time was had by all.

Let It Snow!!!!

Preston has been waiting very patiently for some snow and we finally get some and it ends up being 9 degrees out with 20mph winds. Luckily he was distracted by all his new toys and not to mention having a nasty cold, we didn't end up going out until Wednesday for a bit then Thursday and Friday it was time for some serious sled riding. We have the perfect yard for sled riding with all kinds of hill slopes. I think I was more scared then he was. He had no fear at all. Just giggles and laughing and kept saying again again again. By Friday we had moved to a steeper hill. This is going to be a fun winter!!!

Merry Christmas

Not many pictures this year (mostly video) but we hope everyone had a magical Christmas. Preston surprised us this year by being so "into" Christmas. He was excited for weeks!!! He loved all the Christmas lights, decorations, special treats, shopping, wrapping, the tree, Christmas shows on TV, and of course all the presents. He was so cute opening his own gifts but also loved watching others open their gifts. We had a great day!! So much, so many new toys. I'll spare you a list but some of the highlights were a hot wheels race track, train tracks for Thomas and friends, DVD's, board games, puzzles, RC car and Alphie. It's been great having the week off to play with all of our new toys. These are all the pics we have for now but there will be more to come. The last picture is Preston pushing Guggie around. He kept saying "I'm pushing Guggie, I'm pushing Guggie" "Look how strong I am." Mom was loving it. Too cute!! I have no idea why his tongue is out.

Gingerbread House

First of all, I can't believe I haven't made a blog post since Halloween. Bad girl, bad girl!!!!

Since Preston is really into helping and crafts (thanks to Kym), we thought it would be fun to try making one of the pre-made, glue everything together with icing gingerbread houses. So the weekend before Christmas, the magic happened. Peter working on the icing while Preston and I got the candy ready. Well a half hour later plus a few swear words that Peter was muttering under his breath, we were ready to roll. (Evidently the icing direction that came with the kit were totally wrong and since we had never done this before.....) Anyway, we had a ton of fun!!! As I put the icing on, Preston decorated and sampled a few. You could tell by the smile on his face that he was proud of his accomplishment.

Happy Halloween

What fun day we had! Preston has been practicing his Trick-or-Treat all week and now that he knows what candy is, he was very excited to go trick-or-treating to see what Halloween is all about. So we put on his dragon costume and hit the road with his cousin Aaron. He was so stinkin' cute saying trick-or-treat and thank you!!! After each house he would say "I got more, I got more" and "now I have to eat 'em". He was smiling from ear to ear the whole time and he could not wait to get back to Guggie's house to eat some of his candy. I would definitely say that Swedish Fish are his new favorite. Peter and I had a blast just watching him. In the first picture you can see the dragon head piece but that is as long as he kept it on. Enjoy!!! These came out great!!!

Epic Weekend

After 2-1/2 years since Preston was born, It was nice to finally have a chance to spend time with just each other. Trish stayed at our house and spent the weekend with Preston and the dogs (guess which was easier!) and Peter and I finally had the chance to go to the Finger Lakes! There are a lot of quality wineries and let me tell you it was worth the wait! We had a blast!!! We went on the west side of Seneca Lake hitting 9 wineries; 3 before lunch and 6 after lunch. We went to Prejean, Earle Estates Meadery, Torrey Ridge, Four Chimneys, Ashley Lynn (this one was put on the "do not return" list), Seneca Shore, Rock Stream, Arcadian, and H.J. Weimer. Prejean was the first one we hit and was a nice surprise. We've been a fan of Earle Estates for a long time now, so it was exciting to finally go there. We were extremely lucky this weekend, either just missing the big tour busses and wedding parties or just leaving as they arrived. That was luck for sure because by the end of the day, they were getting pretty rowdy and took up a lot of room at each winery. At the end of the day Saturday we had 4 cases of wine in our car. Nice!!!! We not only had a blast trying and buying wine, we had some extremely delicious food. Geneva, NY prides themselves on using local and fresh food and you can clearly tell by some of the amazing restaurants we went to. Sunday after breakfast we decided to hit the Waterloo outlets on the way home to some much needed shopping and score some good deals. Unfortunately there aren't many pictures. We were having way too much fun and just didn't get a chance to take many. Here are the few we have.

Phase 2

Ok, here are a few pictures of the next phase of our outdoor renovation. Yes we finally put up a fence around the pool. I think that is all for now. We are tapped out!!! The rest will be done in the spring. We will do some landscaping, planting, sod and a concrete patio. We are looking forward to some nice Fall weather. Can't wait for the leaves to change and to do some hiking and apple picking. Preston is growing and getting smarter every day. Our next hurdle is going to be potty training. Can't wait!!!!

Not only is the garage done but now we have doors and power. Peter has already started to move some things into the new garage and clean out the old garage. It's going to take some time and muscle power to get both garages organized. That's ok, we are calling it our Fall project. The first picture is of the front after the garage doors were installed. Then some night pics with the outside lights and the last couple of pics are of Peter's toys. We have also been trying to think of a name for the garage since it feels like part of the family. I like "Toy Box" but Peter has some other ideas he has been tossing around.

The project that we thought would never end is finally over!!! The workers packed up their truck today and took all their tools. The outside is completely done. Yes!!!! The next step is finishing the electric (Bill & Peter) and getting the garage doors. The rest will be inside work that will get done little by little as time goes on. We absolutely love it and it was definitely worth the wait. It was supposed to take 5 weeks that turned into a long 14 weeks. The stereo has already been purchased so that there are tunes (Rush, Blaze Bayley, etc) while the electrical is finished. PylePro amp with Behringer studio monitors.

Mohonk Mountain House, New Paltz NY

Every year Peter's work hosts an annual meeting. It's a 2 day event filled of fun, food and meetings and luckily for me, spouses are invited. For the past few years the meeting has been held in Saratoga so everyone can enjoy the track, golf and fancy restaurants but this year they decided to try something new. We just spent 2 days at the Mohonk Mountain House located 6 miles from exit 18 off the thruway. Let me just say, this place blew Saratoga away. We had a blast!!! There was so much to do and not enough time to do it. And all of this was topped off by some of the most delicious food I've ever had!!! One of the best things we did was hike up to the sky top monument tower. The view was amazing!! All along the trail there were places you could stop to enjoy the view and it just got better the higher we went. Once you get to the monument you can actually go inside and go to the top. It's awe inspiring to be able to look out over the world and realize how small we really are. One way or another we will definitely go back. It was even fun and a little bit scary just driving up the mountain to get there. So here are some pictures. They start out by the resort and work their way up to the top of the monument. You can see the resort getting smaller and smaller. Enjoy!!!

Summer Photo Shoot

We were home enjoying a nice quiet, lazy Sunday when we decided it was time for a summer photo shoot. Even though the weather was not cooperating(it was either too sunny or raining) we decided to go for it anyway. I definitely realize now that the older Perston gets, the harder it is to take his picture. I wasn't really expecting this photo shoot to be very successful because Preston was not being cooperative. Last night when I was looking at the pictures, I was thrilled at how great they came out. I know Peter takes good pictures but I am in love with these. Take a peek for yourself!!!! Summer Fun

Preston and I have been enjoying our summer break!!!! We love sleeping in and snuggling in the morning and not getting dressed until lunch time. We've been doing a lot of swimming, trying to stay cool from the hot and muggy weather. Preston loves playing outside and especially making bubbles. Here are a few cute pics of the bubble boy!! LOL!!!

Big Boy Bed

About 2 weeks ago we switched Preston over to a "big boy bed". He absolutely loves it and it has been one of the easiest transitions so far. I keep thinking this too good to be true but so far so good. Even though this has been an easy transition, it was NOT as easy to set up. First of all Preston's crib turned into a full size bed except that the bed rails that came with it were the wrong ones. Keep in mind that Peter has already taken the crib apart. So after one angry phone call to Huck Finn's, the correct bed rails will be here in 6-8 weeks. Well I am not waiting that long so Peter and I decide to order a bed frame and headboard. So the bed frame came first from Amazon, Peter brings it upstairs to put together and there are only 3 sides!!!! Are you kidding me!!!! So we hopped in the car, drove to Red Brick Furniture and 20mins. later we had a bed frame. Finally!!!! The headboard came yesterday and Peter put it together right away. So as of right now, Preston has a complete big boy bed and he is loving it.

Garage

Ok here are the latest pictures of the new garage. The frame is done and now we are waiting for the roof trusses so they can do the roof. It does seem like this is taking forever though. There were a few set backs, rain, pulled arm ligament, heat, deliveries not showing up on time. We did expect it to be done by now so that we can work on fixing up the backyard. So in other words, Peter has been a bit grumpy but being very patient. I really don't mind how long it takes because the workers are easy on the eyes. They can take all the time they need. LOL!!!

It's time for a well over due blog post. We have been getting a few complaints. Sorry Deb!!! :-) Since the last post things have been very busy around her. Peter had to work late for 2 weeks, I was doing lots of sewing for our school play, our new garage is underway and keeping up with a teething 2 year old has kept us plenty busy!! Being under construction is not fun at all. What a mess! I cannot wait for it to be done so I can have my yard back. Preston has been talking up a storm lately. I love trying to have a conversation with him. He is such a parrot and will repeat anything he hears. We love going to the playground, swinging, playing in the sandbox, and still loves loves anything with wheels. Preston loves playing outside and watching all the different construction vehicles that come and go. The latest obsession is the "new" rocks that are in the driveway. He is definitely a boy from head to toe. He got a new big boy haircut a few weeks ago. You will be able to see it in some of the pictures. It was so hot out yesterday that we got the sprinkler out since the pool is not open yet. Preston loved the sprinkler and getting wet so I have no doubt that he is going to be a fish this summer. I only have a few weeks left of work, then I will be on summer vacation!! I can not wait to be home with Preston. I promise to do another post sooner next time!!! Ok, here are some pics!

The Easter Bunny remembered to stop by the Voelker house. Preston made out pretty good. Who'd have thought the bunny would put matchbox cars inside plastic eggs!!! We wanted to have a low-key Easter this year, so after checking out all of our Easter goodies, we spent the morning with my family. My sister made a delicious brunch that was super yummie and we couldn't have asked for better weather. We made it home in time for Preston to take his nap, then we played outside for the rest of the day. What a great day!!! Now Preston and Mommy have the whole week off to play, play, play!!!! Here are some of the highlights of the day.......here's the set up.

A Good Time Was Had By All

We had lots of fun celebrating Preston birthday yesterday!! It's always nice to visit with family and friends but it always goes by too fast. The food was delicious and the Lightning McQueen cake was awesome!!!! Preston got lots of nice presents. Everyone was very generous!! I love this age because he is so easy to buy for. Well today is the day our little man turns 2!!!! I can't believe it! What an amazing 2 years it has been. I don't even know where to begin. What do I talk about first? Let's see....... as of right now Preston is still obsessed with cars, trucks, buses, trains, tractors, and any moving vehicle that you can think of. I've noticed lately that his two word sentences are becoming three and four word sentences. His vocabulary is growing like crazy. We love singing and doing the itsy bitsy spider on the way to Kym's. He is out of his high chair (since December) and into a booster seat or "big boy" chair. We have definitely had some terrible two moments!!! Preston loves testing mommy and saying no. I do have my secret weapon.......John Deer truck fruit chewies. I can get him to do almost anything with those. LOL!!! He loves running around the house yelling "Ready, Set, Go!!!!!" I don't think there has been a day that goes by that he hasn't put a smile on my face for some reason or another. The other day when we were in the car, I thought he was saying poop, poop but then I finally realized he was saying juice!!! He wanted his juice cup. I said, "Oh, you want your juice." He said "yes... silly goose!!" He definitely has a good sense of humor. My favorite time is when we snuggle on the couch. I think I could go on and on forever but I will spare you. No pictures this time. We are having a party on Saturday, so there will be plenty to come. Lastly, I would just like to say Happy Birthday Preston!!! Mommy and Daddy are so proud of you and we can not wait to see what the next year brings!!!

Epic Snow Storm

Just in case anyone hasn't noticed it's been snowing for the past 5 days!!!!! Each storm we get brings at least a foot or more of snow. We are at 48 inches and counting because it's snowing as I type this. Poor Peter has been out plowing what seems like nonstop and he is getting frustrated because there is no place left to put the snow. I was standing in the drive way last night just looking around and I burst out laughing. It just looks ridiculous and unbelievable. There is an upside to all of this......Preston loves the snow!! Our hill is going to be great for sledding, there will be plenty of snowball fights, snowmen, snow forts and snow angels.

22 months and counting...

Our little baby boy is growing fast. We're doing a lot of "big boy" stuff now. No more bottles. Switched from the highchair to a booster seat. Went "free range" in the tubbie. Our family room is crowded! But not with the usual suspects. All he wants to do is READ! "a read! a read!" It Looks Like Spilt Milk is his current favorite. He says "play car? play car?" while taking you by the hand over to his toy cars :) He loves the movie "Cars" and knows Mater and Lightning McQueen (queen, to him). Mater gets him so excited! He loves watching concerts and cheers wholeheartedly at the end of the songs. He still loves "Shaun sheep?" and has a few favorite things to say now. "ewwwwww gross!" and "hecicocter". He's very good at repeating anything you say. Good thing we're a non-swearing household! He's all into transportation. cars. big trucks. bus. helicopters. typical boy. And oh boy does he love to color. Crayons. markers.

Thank you Kym for helping to reinforce and teach our boy!! We appreciate how you work with him and read to him.

New Year New Look

Happy 2010 everyone!!! 2009 was not one of the greatest years for me so I'm hoping for only good things in 2010. So far so good. Peter decided the blog needed a new look so I hope you like it. Preston is growing up so fast and we're loving every minute of it. He is such a sponge right now. He might have been a late walker but he is certainly an early talker. He will repeat almost anything you say and I'm amazed at how large his expressive vocabulary is. He knows all his letters, he knows his numbers up to 14, he knows some shapes and starting to learn his colors. We are so happy that Preston is with Kym every day while we are at work. She always has fun things to do and plenty to keep Preston busy. Hopefully 2010 will have lots of new adventures to look forward to. We might as well start the new year off right with 3, yes I said 3 videos of Preston. Enjoy!!!!!

All of that planning and it's all over in a blur!!! Santa was good to us this year and we enjoyed spending time with our family. Preston got lots of new toys which took him 2 days to unwrap everything. A few of his favorites are his school bus, alphabet letters, magna doodle, crayons and coloring books and a bowling set. Now it's time to put away the old toys to make room for the new. I can't wait to spend next week with him playing with all the new toys. So fun!!! Thanks to our generous family and friends, a good time was had by all.

Not one of my favorite holidays so the rain just made it worse. We took Preston trick or treating in the rain and he was so not into it!!!! So So Sorry!!!

I've been a bad girl and neglecting the blog lately. Ever since I have been back to work things have been busy and lately at night I'm just way too tired to post anything. So I am a few weeks behind. Preston loves playing outside. We've been apple picking a few times and he loves pumpkins. I think he has adjusted well to his new daycare situation and I don't know if it's coincidence but lately Preston has been talking up a storm. He has started putting two words together and will repeat almost anything you say. So Peter......be careful!!!!! Preston was 18 months old on Sept. 25th. We weighed in at 28 lbs. and 34 1/2 inches tall. He doesn't have to go back until he is 2 yrs. old. Right now we are having so much fun with Preston. He has a great personality and he is always making us laugh. The holidays will be here before you know it. Fun times ahead!!!!

Back To School

Back to school means back to work for me!! Ugh! Where did the summer go??? It always goes by way too fast and before you know it the holidays will be upon us. We have been trying to pack in as much fun as we can. I am not looking forward to getting up early and dealing with morning traffic. I will miss my mornings snuggies with Preston. He will be going to a new daycare. He has already been a few times and absolutely loves it. Preston continues to amaze us every day with how much he knows and understands. 3 of his biggest accomplishments as of today are walking, counting to ten and knowing almost all of his ABC's. He doesn't just know how to sing the alphabet song, he can say his letters when he sees any word, on your shirt, in his name, in his books, on trucks, literally on anything. He is too cute!!! Clearly is favorite thing to do is read and he is starting to become very fond of all the sesame street characters. I have a feeling he will be learning a lot in daycare and will be 2 years old before we know it. Here is a cute little video of Preston playing on the beach and one of him walking! First Hair Cut

My little man is growing up. Today he got his first haircut. Natalie came to Guggie's house to do her hair so what a perfect chance to get Preston's cut. He was such a good boy the whole time. I was really surprised that he let her cut so much. No more curls but I did save some and I didn't even cry. Peter took these pictures after we got out of the pool tonight. (Notice the cool jammie shirt he's wearing!) I can't stop staring at the back of his neck. There will be some video soon to come.

Daddy, mommy, baby, ball, balloon, out, more, yum, no, ouch, aah choo, door, bye, hi, up, pop, me, nice, woof, meow, moo, on, off, pear, belly, eyes, ears, nose, rain, apple, moon, banana (nana), mine, wow, yeah, hot and then he blows, and he says shhhhh. Now remember these aren't perfect but he says them good enough to understand what he is saying.

He has a huge receptive vocabulary and I'm amazed at how much he knows.

PS-On a side note he is becoming a blankie boy. He has 2 blankies that he loves to sleep and snuggle with.

Yesterday we took Preston to the Duanesburg Playground and he LOVED it!! He didn't want to anything else but walk and walk and walk. I tried the kiddie swing...nope. I tried the slide.......nope. He wouldn't even let either one of us hold him for a picture. What a crazy kid!!!! Peter got some good pictures anyway.

Woohoo!!!! I'm officially done with work until September! Yeah!!! I am looking forward to spending the summer with Preston and relaxing so I can recharge my batteries. I certainly need it, it's been one crazy year. I will have a lot more time to post pictures and news. I have a feeling we will be in the pool a lot and we are planning several trips up to the lake for some boating and playing on the beach.

Preston had his 15 month check up yesterday. He weighs 26 lbs. and 33 1/2 inches long. Wow this kid is going to be tall!!! Gee I wonder why? He is walking more and more on his own and that's all he wants to do. I'm not sure when it's considered official but it's pretty close.

We have 2 videos here for you. The first one is Preston walking while holding Kirsten's hand. He can only go a couple steps without support so far, but he's getting there!
This weekend I jumped in the pool for the first time this season. The water was 58 degrees but you get used to it after a few minutes. Kirsten put Preston's swim trunks on and let him kick the water a bit. The cold didn't bother him one bit either! He's a water boy for sure.

2009 Spring Winery Tour

Every year we arrange a series of wine tastings at Hudson Valley wineries for our aunt and uncle from Michigan. We always have a great time and last weekend was no exception! We went to Adair Vineyards, Glorie Farm Winery, Brotherhood Winery and Palaia. This year Preston, Trish, Dean, and Cindy joined us. No pictures from Palaia because they booted us like a bouncer at a bar. "No kids!" They were not very nice about it, so neither was Dennis. enough said! Thanks Dennis!

I found a sweet deal on a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire! 2005 Limited Edition with a 6-speed manual and only 5600 miles on it for $15k. These go for $35k to $40k new. The only kicker was that I had to hitch a ride to Syracuse so that I could drive it back. Fortunately a co-worker lives there and was going back home on thursday. I'll probably never do something like this again, but it was worth it!

Hello!!!! Sorry we have been MIA for the past 2 weeks. Things have been a little crazy around here but we are slowly getting back to normal. Preston is 13 months old now and we are having so much fun. He is so funny and makes us laugh every day. He loves being outside and cries when we bring him in. Preston has discovered bubbles and will constantly ask for them. Last week we had Preston's one year old pictures taken. I can't wait to see them. Peter has been busy tearing up the backyard to make it more kid friendly. He has also been giving Preston rides on the ATV which he loves!! We are going to try to get a video of it soon. We will be opening the pool at the end of May and I can't wait to see what Preston thinks of that. Two more months and then I'm on summer vacation!!!! Yeah!!!! Preston got to experience his first Easter this year. Saturday we went to Aunt Cindy's to celebrate Easter (she has lots of fun animals to play with) and we also went to Sunday brunch with the Wos/Martino gang! It's always so nice to spend time with family. Preston got a bunch of goodies (books, Handy Manny DVD, Tigger and Pooh stuffed animals). Also, I have this week off so I am looking forward to spending it with my boy. Hope everyone enjoyed their Easter.

1 year check up

Preston had his one year checkup last week and he weighs 24 lbs. and is 31-1/2 inches long. He is meeting all of his 1-year milestones and got 3 shots. He cried of course but was waving goodbye to all the nurses on the way out. He is super healthy and happy (which we already knew!)

Ok, here are some things Preston can do...

Clap, wave hi/bye, give kisses/hugs, walks holding on, climbs, pulls himself up, dance, hold his bottle, feed himself with his hands, point, throw anything he can get his hands on, he definitely has a funny sense of humor. He loves to laugh and make others laugh. He is doing great at daycare and has made some new friends.

He says or understands mommy/daddy, lights, no (which he just loves, lol), give it to mommy/daddy, ball, door, eyes, ears, nose, more, dogs, binky, ouch, go, bye, hi, up, all done. These are just a sample of what he knows. I am amazed at how much he has grown and understands in the past 3 months.

Preston loves to play ball, read, watch commercials, dump things out and put them back repeatedly, ride is bike, climb on his chair, talk on the phone, go shopping, do puzzles, play with anything that makes noise, climb over anything in his way (even daddy) and he really likes going outside. I'm not even going to list all the food he loves because there are too many. LOL!

We are working on drinking from a sippy cup, trying more table food and walking. We are so happy to have turned the car seat around and we have almost converted from formula to whole milk bottles. Yeah!!!!

As a side note, as I write this we are having our first bout of sickness here. Preston worked up with a fever Friday morning and we were at the doctors by 11. No ear infection thank goodness, just a common cold and some teeth coming in. So lots of fluids and tylenol is all we can do. We think he is feeling better today but we are staying home and just taking it easy. We made it 1 week over a full year without any sickness so I guess it was just a matter of time. Going to the doctor last week for his checkup jinxed us!

Anyway, the party was perfect and so was Preston even without his usual nap. He did great opening his gifts and he loves balloons. Warning: This may get mushy so have some tissues ready if you are a crier. LOL! It's time for us to reflect on the past year of being Preston's parents... First we want to say how much we love being a mom and a dad. This truly has been an amazing experience so far and the thought that all of this may not have been possible without the help of modern medicine makes us appreciate Preston even more. Preston... mommy and daddy love you so much and you are the highlight of our lives! we love your smile, your laugh, your silly noises and mommy loves the way you snuggle with me in the morning. We finally had some nice spring weather this weekend. Preston just loves being outside. This is all new to him because he was too little remember any of this last year. LOL!!! This weekend we ordered a back pack toddler carrier so that Peter can carry Preston when we go on hikes. Peter also bought Preston a soccer ball. He wants to start him early. We are all looking forward to being able to go for walks after dinner and playing outside. Here are a few pics from our walk this afternoon. We had a good day yesterday. It was nice to spend the day out of the house. We went to the mall for a little shopping. Of course, when the mall is open at 10, that doesn't mean that any stores are open! So we went to Kohl's to find some deals for summer clothes and then returned to the mall. Preston loves being in the stroller and watching all the activity. After all that, we came home to feed the dogs and then went back out to dinner. Apparently standard waiting time for a restaurant in Albany is 45 minutes, so after 2 or 3 failed attempts, we ended up at a new Indian & Pakistani restaurant. Preston was so good with us getting him in and out and in and out of the car. He definitely becomes a much better traveler the older he gets. Next week he will be 11 months old and then it's countdown to the big one year old. The other day I just said to Peter that I can't believe we have an almost one year old!!!! OMG!!!!!

Long time, No post!!!!!

Wow it has been a long time since my last post. With my mom in the hospital, things have been pretty crazy around here so the baby blog got pushed to the back burner. Now that things have somewhat calmed down and I have a few minutes to sit down, it is time for a new post. So Preston is now 10.5 months old. Holy Cow!!!! Everyone has been telling me how fast time flies and now I truly believe it. Since Christmas, Preston has been growing like a weed and learning so many new things. Ok, first thing is we have definitely confirmed that Preston's first word is "dog" pronounced "daw". He says it whenever he sees them or hears them. He will call for them and crawl after them saying "daw" and this is all on his own without any prompts. Here are some other things he is doing..........

1. sitting, crawling, kneeling, pulling himself up to a stand, standing, going from a stand to a sit, standing and moving along the coffee table or couch

2. eating all kinds of real food like pancakes, cream of wheat, green beans, carrots, blueberries, jello, pasta, cheerios, pears, bananas and oranges to name a few

3. we moved Preston's crib mattress down to the lowest level

4. he loves to read books, especially any book that has a flap or something to touch

5. he can clap, wave, and do eyes, ears and nose and he is also learning to put one finger up to show he is one

6. he LOVES watching commercials (especially John Shearer the video professor and Billy Mays), going shopping and being in his walker so he can check out what is in all the cabinets

7. he has 6 teeth (4 on top, 2 on the bottom)

8. he is wearing 18-24 months clothes

Ok, I think that's a pretty good update. I'm sure I will think of more as soon as I post this. We are looking forward to all new things we can do in the next month and a half. This is such a great age and we are having so much fun. Preston just loves to laugh and has really been a great baby. 2009 is going to be an exciting year.

Ok, first of all if you look back you can see that we have been at this blogging thing for a year now. Wow, time is flying!!!!! I can't believe my little man is 9 months old already and before you know it we will be celebrating his first birthday. On Friday, Preston had his 9 month check up. He is officially 21 lbs. and 30 inches long. The doctor said he is in the average range for a 9 month old except his height, he is above average. No surprise!!! Preston now has 6 teeth. 4 on top and 2 on the bottom. He is enjoying a variety of fruits and vegetables for breakfast lunch and dinner. We have also started some finger foods like Cheerios and waffles and he loves pears and oranges. He is definitely on the move now. Army crawling all over the place and he loves being up on his knees and has even pulled himself up on his tip toes a few times. Preston has also become very interested in the dogs. He loves watching them and wants to touch them and crawl over to their bed and peek under the blankets to find them. I think it's going to be a love/hate relationship. Both dogs have figured out that Preston drops food over the side of his high chair. LOL! Anyway, we wish everyone a happy and healthy new year and only good things to come for 2009!!!

Preston's 1st Christmas

We had a blast!!!!! A good time was had by all!!!! Two days of being with family, eating, opening presents, eating, taking pictures, eating, and playing with all the new toys!!!!!! Santa was good to everyone this year. Peter got an iPod Touch that he hasn't put down in 2 days. I got a new laptop, a MacBook of course. And Preston got a ton of toys, which I'm not sure who is having more fun with them... Preston or Peter? Preston did great pulling off the wrapping paper but then all he wanted to do was eat it. LOL!!! We are definitely looking forward to getting rid of all the baby toys and playing with all the new interactive toys we got for Christmas. Preston is moving around like crazy and our project over vacation is to baby proof the house. I can't believe he is 9 months old already and in 3 months he will be one year old!!!! He goes for his 9 month check up on Jan. 2nd. I will post his stats when we get them. Ok, here are some highlights from the past 2 days...

Merry Christmas!!

We've had a crazy 2 weeks, but it's almost Christmas! 10 days ago we were hit with a major ice storm that brought some of the worst power outages in decades to the area. We lost power Friday morning, got it back Sunday afternoon, then lost it again monday night. Peter was fortunate enough to have available to him a generator from work on Tuesday, along with some help in hooking it up. We were still left without power, heat, or running water for several days. Poor Preston had to wait while his bottles warmed up by the fire and he didn't much like the darkness either. We all survived, although our Christmas cards went out late and our tree just got decorated yesterday. Since it's been so long, this will be a big post with lots-O-pictures!

With that behind us, we got a foot of snow this past Friday and today we're getting another 10" or so. It's looking like we'll have a white Christmas for sure!! Preston got to see santa for the first time. He didn't quite know what to make of him, but he got a big 2008 winter teddy bear.

We can't wait to be home with him for 2 weeks, too! He'll be 9 months old on Christmas day. He's got a new nickname, too; Billy Goat. This kid chews on and eats (if we let him) EVERYTHING. Especially magazines and paper!!!!

We had Preston's Baptism yesterday. Everything was perfect and Father Shaw did a great job. Preston was very well behaved, thank goodness. I was a little worried at first because the timing of the service was right during nap time, but he did great. Thanks to our family and friends that shared this special day with us. It will be a memory that we cherish forever. Peter and I are so blessed.

Ok, I think it's time for an update! First of all, I can't believe our baby is seven and half months old. OMG!!! Everyone keeps telling me to enjoy these days because time goes so fast and now I believe it. Let's see......Preston has 4 teeth now, he is eating a variety of fruits and veggies 3 times day, he is very close to crawling, sits by himself, now wears mostly 12 month clothes, we had to lower his mattress since he is more mobile now, holds his own bottle, knows his name, looks for Peter when I say "where's daddy", loves to play peek-a-boo and patty cake, and he is the nosiest kid I've ever met!!! His new favorite thing is to rip up and chew on magazines. Preston is such a joy to be around and Peter and I are having so much fun. All those giggles, smiles and laughs just melt my heart!!

Anniversary Weekend

Peter and I celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary on Saturday. We had such a nice day with perfect weather the whole weekend. We decided to take Preston to one of our favorite places, Vroman's Nose. We always go around this time of year because the leaves are usually at peak and the view is amazing. Peter got to carry Preston in the Baby Bjorn and I got to take some pictures this time.

Doctor Visit and More!

Preston had his 6 month check up on Thursday. He is....... (drumroll please) 19lbs. and 28 inches long. The doctor said he is right on target with his height and weight and is hitting all the important milestones. Preston also got 2 shots. He took them really well, only cried for a minute. He goes back at 9 months.

We have had lots of new things happening this week. First of all we have started adding some vegetables to Preston's dinner time feeding. So far they seem to be hit. This boy is definitely going to be a good eater. We have also started some finger foods for a little snack. He's not really sure about them yet but likes playing with them. And as of Sat. he now has TWO bottom teeth. Pretty soon he's going to be ready for some steak and pork chops.

We also upgraded to a new car seat this weekend. YEAH!!!! I was so tired of carrying around the infant car seat!!! It's so heavy and hard to maneuver. I'm so glad he grew out the infant seat already. And the last new change for the week is a new tubby seat. He loves being able to sit and play in the water now. It's so cute to see him splashing in the bubbles and playing with his duckies.

So that's the latest for now. Peter and I are so happy and enjoying Preston everyday. He is so fun to be with and is constantly making us laugh. What a joy he has brought to our lives. Ok, enough of the mushy stuff.......here are some pics.

Today Preston turned 6 months old. :) Yesterday, Sybil found that he cut his first tooth on the bottom front. Both of us are sick, so we haven't been poking around in his mouth looking for it. We promise to have pictures of the lone tooth once it gets bigger.

This little boy just keeps growing! He's wearing 9-12 month clothes. Of course mommy and daddy are both tall, so we know the P-man will be tall, too. We're already shopping and comparing new car seats. He'll be grown out of his infant seat soon. He's getting good at rolling from his stomach to his back, but still working on the back to belly. So if flips over at night and ends up waking us up, we have to flip him back to his stomach. And by "we" I mean Kirsten.

We tried reading with him, but all he wants to do is munch on the books. I think we're a little early. He does like all the colors though!

We went apple picking Saturday at Golden Harvest. It's become an annual tradition. New this year is their distillery. mmmmmmm. Apple vodka! Last year, Preston was only 2" tall, so this was his first official apple picking trip! For the most part, he sat quietly in his stroller and watched all the action. He wore his cute boating hat, matching shirt, and dark wash jeans. We put him in the Baby Bjorn for a bit and picked him up to check out the apples on the trees. All he wanted to do was rip the leaves off and stuff them in his mouth. Next year he'll be able to run down the rows of trees, kicking rotten apples, and picking them off trees and munching all day!

New Look, New Video, New Milestones

As you can see Peter has changed the look of our blog. Hope you like it. Preston will be 6 months old next week. Wow!!! I can't believe it. He will be going for his checkup and shots on Oct. 2nd. I can't wait to see how much he weighs and how long he is. Daycare is still going well. I'm so happy how fast he is adjusting and seems to be fitting right in. Let's see... the latest milestone is that Preston is rolling over from belly to back. He can't get back on his belly so he gets stuck (and sometimes mad) and I have to flip him over. Most mornings when I go get him up he is on his back. It's really funny to see. Preston is now sitting/riding in the "seat" of the grocery cart. He LOVES it and so do all the old ladies at the grocery store. He is so nosey and just loves looking at every thing. He is definitely a good shopper... Thank God!!! LOL!!

Back To Work

Well I am back to work and Preston has started Daycare. We found a great in-home daycare that is close to where I work. Pam is great with kids and everyone, including Pam just loves Preston. So far he is doing pretty good. He does cry a little in the morning when I leave but everyday it gets less and less. He is definitely getting used to Pam and the kids already. In some ways I wish I wasn't working but I also think it's good that he is around other kids and not just with me and Peter all the time. Preston is now eating applesauce, pears, peaches and bananas with his rice cereal. He is still drooling and biting like a mad man but still no teeth. He has also discovered that his toys make noise when he bangs them on his tray. Peter says he is a drummer in the making. We can't wait for the fall to go apple picking and Halloween. And he has so many cute fall outfits I can't wait to put him in. Here is Preston's new face/expression. He does this all the time now. We call him cheeks.

Voelker Family Reunion 2008

Sunday we went to the annual Voelker Family Reunion! We had a lot of fun and there was plenty of yummie food. The weather was perfect, sunny with a nice breeze. It was great to see everyone and I'm so glad the family got to meet Preston. It's been too many years since we have seen some of our relatives. Preston is the littlest Voelker and was the king of the day. He was kind of quiet just taking in all the action and sticking close to mommy and daddy. We kept saying wait until next years reunion....he'll be running around bothering all the big kids and having a blast. Thank you Uncle Hartmut and Sharon for hosting such a wonderful event.

Sorry I haven't posted any new pictures lately, we've just been too busy. Preston's Aunt Cindy and cousins AnnaMarie and Lucia came to visit this past weekend. We had a great time and had fun spending time with them. We all went up to the lake for some swimming and boating. Believe it or not Peter forgot to bring his camera so we don't have any pictures. I wish they lived closer because Anna and Lucia are great babysitters!!! Preston has also started daycare. He is going a few days this week to get him ready for next Wed. when I go back to work. I thought I was going to cry more than him but we both did better then expected. Of course he cries when mommy leaves but is easily distracted by all the toys and the other kids. I think by next week he will be looking forward to seeing all the kids. He is now getting cereal and fruit 2 times a day. He loves it!!! He opens his mouth like a little bird waiting for more and he gets so upset when it's all gone!! We are waiting for some teeth to pop up anytime now because he is biting and drooling like crazy.

20 weeks

Preston was 20 weeks old on Tuesday. Every day he is doing more and more and we are having so much fun with him. Peter keeps saying that he didn't think it was possible for Preston to get any cuter but he does every day. We started adding a little bit of apple sauce in his cereal and he loves it. We have also been working on a new schedule to get ready for daycare when Mommy goes back to work in Sept. Warning......Peter got a new camera so look for LOTS of new pictures!!!!

We went up to camp(the family summer house on Lake Sacandaga) for a few days. We've been going up a lot to hang out with the family. Doctor Visit

Preston went for his 4 month check-up today. He is 16 lbs. and 26 inches long. The doctor said he looks great and is right where he should be. He is hitting all the appropriate milestones. He also got 3 shots (so sad) so we are doing tylenol every 4 hrs. It seems to be working very well. It was a pretty uneventful visit. He will go back at 6 months. Here's a funny pic that I have to share!

Almost 4 Months Old

Preston is almost 4 months old!!! YEAH!!! Every day he is starting to do more and more and we are having so much fun! I think one of his favorite things to do is talk to Peter. He tells daddy all of our secrets!!! So far our summer is going good. We've been up to the lake a few times, shopping, swimming, and just hanging out and visiting with lots friends and family. We got Preston a Bumbo this weekend since he is constantly trying to sit up and loves being able to see everything. He LOVES it!!! He will sit in it for about 20mins. It's great for his strengthening his neck muscles. Xena also took the opportunity to check him out up close.
